AVID

What's new in AVID?

AVID's Mission

AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

What is AVID?

AVID stands for “Advancement Via Individual Determination”

AVID is a elective that prepares students for high school, college and career.  Our curriculum focuses on WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading) to get students to start thinking at a higher level.

Twice a week we engage in college-style tutorial study groups where students work together to figure out things that have confused them in their academic classes. Our students become independent thinkers and learners through this process.

AVID is different than any other class you take in that we focus on building habits and routines to help you in school…if you are willing to put in the work to strengthen these habits and routines. AVID is NOT easy at first, but if you trust the process, it is worth it.

Throughout the year we take field trips to visit local colleges. We have visited UCR, CSUSB, Cal State Fullerton, UCI, Cal Poly Pomona, and Chaffey among others. Please note that attending these field trips is part of your grade and you are expected to attend.
